George Cartlidge Portrait Tile


antique victorian portrait dog tile by George Cartlidge.
These type of tiles were designed by George Cartlidge and made by the staffordshire pottery sherwin for sherwin & cotton using creating a type of holographic effect as the surface is almost flat yet the image is slightly in relief using mould techniques and a high fired glossy glaze .
The tile dates to circa 1890s 1900s and is framed in the original solid oak frame.
Some amount of reflection in photos due to the very high gloss glaze to the tile.
These tiles were designed by George Cartlidge for his ceramic tile portraits using a high gloss sepia glaze the back of the tile is stamped shewin patent.
