A charming rustic scene showing country folk chatting in front of a cottage door. Vincent frequently painted similar compositions, often infuriatingly omitting to sign his works. This painting is unsigned. It has been in a private collection for nearly 30 years and prior to that has provenance from several leading Auction Houses. A copy of the 1990 Bonham’s sale catalogue is available to the purchaser.

George Vincent was a landscape and marine painter, born, in Norwich . He studied art under "Old" Crome and at the age of fifteen began to contribute to the Norwich Society of Artists. From 1814 until 1823 he exhibited occasionally at the Royal Academy and also in the Water-Colour Exhibition and the British Institution. In 1819 he moved from Norwich to London and contributed to the Suffolk Street Gallery from its foundation in 1824 until 1830. He possessed great artistic abilities.
Condition
In good clean bright condition. The canvas carries an old lining and there is mild craquelure to the paint surface.
