Harris Lebus Oak Art Nouveau Sideboard c1880-1900

HARRIS LEBUS OAK ART NOUVEAU SIDEBOARD c1880-1900.
This is a Harris Lebus oak Art Nouveau sideboard raised on plinth base with carved foliate panels to the doors which open to reveal a single removable shelf. Above this is two drawers with oak linings and all of the original fittings remain. The mirror back section has a central mirror flanked by two smaller mirrors. The columns rest on small shelves and have baluster turnings to the lower half and ring turnings to the upper part of the columns. The ornate cornice is topped off by a foliate carved and pireced crest rail.
I have included a photograph of the original trade catalogue giving the registration number, woods, cost and the other matching pieces in this suite. The registration number for this piece 483222 relates to 1906-7 and the catalogue II have is around 1910-14 so it dates it quite well as II have a catalogue for the early 1920's for Harris Lebus and its not included in that catalogue as it has been discontinued at that point.
The antique furniture manufacturers Harris Lebus was started by his father Louis Lebus in the 1840s when he arrived in Hull after emigrating to Britain. Louis Lebus a German Jewish cabinet maker soon moved to London to grow his business. Moving from premises to premises as the firm prospered by the 1890s they were the biggest company in the country. In 1900 needing a further expansion they purchased 13 ½ acres in Tottenham for their new factory where they stayed until they went out of business in 1969. They were a large and successful furniture manufacturers that produced some of their best work in the arts and crafts style between 1900-10 with some wonderful examples. A wide variety of information is now available on line if you search the web.
