Harry J. Williams 1854-1901 Cornish Watercolour

We are offering for sale this lovely sunset coastal landscape by the Cornish artist Harry J. Williams, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner and dated it 1890. The painting depicts a coastal landscape in sunset, with a vessel out to sea on a choppy sea. There is a rock jutting out to sea with an archway, numerous seabirds flying around the rocks and more cliffs to the left and right of the painting. Unfortunately, the artist has not given the location and we haven't been able to identify it.
Harry Williams was born in Hackney, London in 1854. There is little information available about his early life, but he exhibited two paintings at London exhibitions in 1874 from a Penzance address. In 1891, at the age of 37, he appeared in the Census as living with his aunt Elizabeth Rendle at 58 Morrab Road, Penzance and in 1901 living with his wife at 38 Morrab Road. He died in Penzance in 1901 at the age of 47.
He is listed in The Dictionary of British Artists (Collectors' Club) and The Dictionary of Victorian Painters by Christopher Wood.
We are not giving information about his auction results, as there are many Henry, Harry, H. J. Williams and on most of the sites, their paintings are very confused. An exception is on arcadja.com, where they do show four watercolours by him under Harry J. Williams. As far as we know he painted watercolours on Cornish scenes, and one of these achieved 270 euros at Bonhams in 2008.
The painting is double mounted with washlines and is framed in a 1 1/4" gilt frame. It will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
Image size 19" x 11 1/4" - 48.25cm x 28.55cm
Frame size 27 1/8" x 20 3/16" - 68.85cm x 51.25cm
Medium Watercolours on paper
Condition Very good condition with no foxing or fading. The mounts and frame are in good condition.
