For sale today we have this Large and Rare Songbird decorated vase by Eliza Simmance for Doulton Lambeth. The trumpet form vase features an incredibly intricate and superbly executed Pate-sur-Pate design of facing birds within a very dramatic foliate and floral pattern. The manner of the birds is reminiscent of William Morris's "the strawberry thief". Above the main design there is a further formal paneled flower border.

Measures 28 cm tall. Stamped Doulton Lambeth mark to the base along with incised ES 738 for Simmance and assistants as shown. Dated 1880.
