Superb Gilt Overmantle Mirror c 1825.
Frame retains the trade label for W.Froom, 136 The Strand, London. See notes below.
Stunning water-gilded frame, mercury mirror plate with overall foxing, wonderful sparkle to the silvering.
Original backing board complete with makers label.
Sizes 117cm tall x 151cm max width at top x 147.5 max width at base. Retaining it's original ceramic bun feet.
William Froom is recorded as a carver, gilder, and looking-glass manufacturer from 1825 - 39 at 136, The Strand. By 1829 he appears to have taken a partner, Cribb, and they trade under both names (cf. Geoffrey Baird & Christopher Gilbert (eds), Dictionary of English Furniture Makers 1660-1840, 1986, p.322).
