Oak Refectory Table By Alan Grainger c.1960.

Solid oak refectory table by Alan ‘Acornman’ Grainger c.1960. The one and a quarter inch thick top is cut with an adze to give it a distinct wavey surface, an unusual and attractive feature which appears to have been a speciality of Grainger. Shaped ends with a sleigh foot joined with a through-wedged tennon stretcher carved with Grainger’s trademark acorn. Attractive pale colour and very good original condition.
Inspired by the work of Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson the mid 20th.c. saw a profusion of antique furniture makers working in the Arts & Crafts tradition in and around Yorkshire who signed their work with a carved mark or ‘critter’. Alan Grainger adopted the (very suitable) acorn as trademark of Acorn Industries, the workshop he set up with his father (also Alan) in 1958 in the Yorkshire village of Bransby.
Dimensions width 66”, depth 32”, height 29”. Please contact us for more images, delivery and shipping quotes. Alternatively you are welcome to view and collect at our large warehouse showroom in Llandudno Junction, North Wales (approximately 45mins from Chester). We have a large and ever changing selection of genuine good quality antique furniture of all types and have twice been shortlisted for the Home and Antiques Magazine Antique Shop of the Year Award. 01492 580022.
