Original Watercolour boxing illustration W Stott

Artist William Robertson Smith Stott Fl. 1905-1934
Title Fist Fight
Medium Watercolour and body colour on card
Date of Creation 1920
Artist Biography
Little is known about Stott other than he was born in Aberdeen in 1878, the youngest of 9 children. He moved to London and was active as an artist from 1905. He illustrated numerous romantic historical adventures including an edition of Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson. He is a well regarded and collected artist with his painting selling for between $1,200 - $7,000 at auction.
Painting Details
This is a fantastic lively painting of a bare knuckle fight in a log cabin. It is full of energy and depth of detail with the numerous onlookers. It is an original illustration for an unknown book, with the publishers label still to the reverse. This is by far the best piece of artwork by this artist I have seen.
The painting is offered in a new frame.
