Pair Large Oak Hooded Rocking Orkney Chairs Reynold Eunson


Circa 20th century, exhibition quality, rare pair of oak frame and oat straw, hooded rocking Orkney chairs by Reynold Eunson. Made in the traditional process of oat straw and marram grass to the hooded top, and with a marram grass drop-in seat, all contained in an oak frame. With shaped arms with C-scroll ends and all raised on rockers.
With makers stamp(s) to the front rail of both chairs of Reynold Eunson – which was an ‘R’ and ‘E’ with a thistle between. Eunson took over renowned Orkney chair maker David Kirkness’ firm in 1956, retaining his makers stamp of ‘D.M.Kirkness, Kirkwall, Orkney, Made in Scotland’.
Examples of his work can be seen in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London and you can read more about the interesting history of Orkney chairs here.
