Pair of 19thC Scottish Mahogany Collector's Chests

A good quality pair of late 19th century solid mahogany collector’s or specimen chests with trade label for ‘David Souttar of Aberdeen’. Each with a moulded top above five finely dovetailed drawers with original ornate brass handles and escutcheons and fitted with working ‘secure lever’ locks, standing on a plinth base with shaped front.
In good condition with good colour & grain, minor marks consistent with age, the drawers open and close smoothly, one chest has a very small chip and watermark which we will take out, the other is slightly lighter from the sun. These could also be useful for filing purposes.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions or for more photos.
The overall dimensions at the largest points are approximately
Width - 19 ¼in (49cm)
Depth - 16 ⅜in (41.5cm)
Height - 45in (114cm)
Internal sizes of the drawers:
15 ¼in wide x 14 ⅛in deep (38.7cm x 36cm)
Heights graduated from 5 ¼in to 7 ¼in high (13.5cm to 18cm)
Note: David Souttar, Cabinetmaker & Upholsterer, is recorded in the 1899-1900 Aberdeen Post Office Directory at 183 Rosemount Place and 28 Watson Street, Aberdeen.
Ref: 0549 Please appreciate all our items are antique and as such may have minor scratches, marks, knocks, shrinkage splits signs of old woodworm, and minor losses to veneer, which combine with care and years of polishing to create an individual character and patina. We cannot describe each marks separately and therefore suggest you do take the time to request extra photos. We do offer a 14 day money back guarantee for UK purchases but cannot refund the return shipping cost.
