This is a fine pair of Chinese watercolours of flowers and insects from the early to mid 20th century. Each carries Chinese characters and a red seal mark. The painting of carnations has a beetle climbing one of the stems and the painting of indigo flowers shows a red coloured dragonfly about to land on a leaf. The former appears to be on silk, the latter on paper, with both laid on watermarked silk covered card. These compositions look like they have been painted from nature because of the level of detail and naturalism of the subject matter, and this sets them apart from most Chinese paintings of flowers which are more formulaic in appearance.

Dimensions: 40 x 30.5 cm.

Condition: The paintings are in good antique condition without damage. They would look very attractive framed.
