Rare 14th Century Medieval Sculpture The Dagda

Rare 14th Century Medieval Sculpture The Dagda c1400
The Dagda, modern spelling Daghdha, likely from Proto-Celtic Dagodeiwos, "the good god" is an important god of Irish mythology. The Dagda is a father-figure and a protector of the tribe.
Tales depict the Dagda as a figure of immense power, armed with a magic club and associated with a cauldron. The club was supposed to be able to kill nine men with one blow but with the handle he could return the slain to life.
Originally a medieval door panel. The panel is carved on oak timber 1 1/2" thick in depth. Original iron fixing present to the back.
The fossilised oak is almost petrified, very heavy with a wonderful deep colour and patination.
Weighs 4.5kg. Measures 39" high x 9 1/4" wide
Excessively rare, Late 14th Century, c1400
All major credit and debit cards accepted.
