Rosenthal "Classic Modern White" Coffee Pot c.1960

This stunning white coffee pot was designed by Raymond Loewy for Rosenthal of Germany in 1954 and went into production in 1956. It was part of a full suite of tableware called "Classic Modern White, Form 2000," which remained in production for a number of years.
Rosenthal are one of the great names in German ceramics with a long history dating back to 1879. After a difficult time during the Nazi era because of the company's Jewish connections, they found a new lease of life post war and the Mid-Century Modern era is arguably their finest period of production.
Raymond Loewy is one of the true geniuses of 20th century design. Born in France, he moved to the USA after WW1 and began a career which saw Time magazine call him "The Man Who Shaped America". His work includes steam trains, cars (Studebaker Starlight, Sunbeam Alpine and others) the livery for Air Force One, logos for Shell, Exxon, TWA, the US Coast Guard and BP, the crew's living quarters on NASA's Skylab space station and the interior of the Air France Concorde. He designed ceramics for Rosenthal in the 1950s and "Classic Modern White" is perhaps his finest work for them.
The coffee pot is 23.5cm / 9.25" tall and 19.5cm / 7.5" from spout to handle. The diameter of the base is 11.5cm / 4.5".
Condition is very good with no chips or cracks. The interior is spotlessly clean so it has either been very well looked after or never used. The base is stamped Rosenthal Germany.
This is a stunning piece of mid-century design by one of the 20th century's most celebrated designers. If you're looking for vintage style then you need look no further.
