Scottish Regency Long Case Clock by James Howden

Scottish Regency Long Case Clock by James Howden Scottish Scotland James Howden
A stunning Scottish Regency Period mahogany long case semi regulator antique clock with silvered dial by James Howden & Co of Edinburgh.

The clock contains an eight day movement with the dial showing seconds, date and finished with original blued steel hands. The makers name is presented across the centre of the dial.

The case is finished in superior flame mahogany veneers and the hood is complete with glazed brass bezel and with a nod to the period’s fascination with everything Egypt, it has unusual pyramid motif finials.

The Howden family are listed as makers of repute and both father and son traded in Edinburgh from 1764 – 1842. The elder Howden retired in 1809 so it is likely that this clock was made somewhere close to the transition from father to son.

A very fine and desirable example of a Regency Scottish antique clock, it is dated circa 1810.
