Sheraton Revival Desk (ex Benacre Hall)
A superb quality Sheraton Revival mahogany and inlaid freestanding desk from the well respected workshops of Marris & Norton of Corporation Street, Birmingham (with label).
Provenance - Benacre Hall, Suffolk. purchased at Southeby's Country House Auction between May 9th - 11th 2000.
The front with 7 graduated drawers each having Satinwood banding, boxwood lines and floral marquetry centres in various exotic coloured woods with cast brass drop handles.The stiles with superb Sheraton style inlaid urns above graduated satinwood harebells. The arched kneehole with further conforming inlay and the whole supported on 6 square tapering and inlaid legs terminating in brass square cup casters. The freestanding back and sides having inset satinwood banding between boxwood and ebony lines and further boxwood outline stringing. The top with conforming banding etc, and a replacement green leather writing surface with blind and gold tooling. Sizes:- Height...30.5''/ 77.5cm. Width...48''/ 122cm. Depth...24.5''/ 62cm.
