Silver pair cases - George Halifax, 1748

MOVEMENT Gilded verge fusee movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock and plate. Signed and numbered (559). All in good original condition. A foot is missing from the dial false plate, but the plate is held firmly by the other two. Running well.
DIAL White enamel, in good condition, with scratches around the chapter ring (touched up over the black numbers), a short crack on the edge at 10 and a repair at the opening catch at 6.
INNER CASE Silver, hallmarks for London, 1748. Maker's mark RP. Excellent condition throughout The high dome crystal is fine. The hinge and catch are fine and the case closes properly. An engraving of the owners initials (TB) and date (1834) are still visible on the outside of this case.
OUTER CASE Silver, with no hallmarks (not unusual for silver of this date). Very good condition throughout with just a little wear to the catch button. The hinge and catch are fine and the case closes correctly. The case is very nicely engraved with a coat of arms (three stars and crescents). Again, the initials TB are scratched onto the inside of this case.
George Hallifax was born in 1725, in Barnsley before moving to Doncaster.
The engravings on the cases and the two watchpapers provide information about a previous owner of this watch. The coat of arms is for the Bateman family. The watchpaper from Bakewell (Derbyshire) has 'Bateman Esq.' written on the back. The other watchpaper is a nicely handmade paper, marked TB, 1835. These are the same initials as scratched onto both silver cases.
Free worldwide postage.
Payments by cheque, bank transfer, credit & debit cards and Paypal accepted.
