Small Longcase Clock by Lake of Taunton

A highly desirable small mahogany Longcase Clock from the County of Somerset.
The 8 day duration movement striking the hours on a bell and featuring a recoil anchor escapement. The silvered brass square dial features seconds, blued steel hands, date aperture and is signed by the maker to the centre of the dial. Also with beautifully engraved scrolls and flowers to both the corners and centre.
The small and well appointed mahogany case has a long trunk door with a moulded base below and a single plinth. The flat top hood is framed with mahogany pillars either side and quarter pillars to the rear. The capitals are unusually decorated with silver gilt which gives the whole antique clock an almost contemporary feel.
Note: Thomas Lake of Taunton is known to have been working in the latter half of the 18th century and into the 19th century. He is recorded as a Watch & Clockmaker. The combination of the silvered brass dial and the silver gilt capitals displayed on this clock would allow it suit either a period property with traditional antique furniture or indeed a very modern home.
Height: 6'5" / C.1800 P A Oxley Antique Clocks & Barometers have been established since 1971 and are Members of LAPADA & CINOA. We specialise in sympathetically restored antique longcase clocks, bracket clocks, wall clocks, barometers & vintage watches. All are guaranteed for 12 months.
Our full stock is available to view on our website with extensive images. You can also listen to each clock and watch videos of particular clocks in action. Our large showrooms are open by appointment where they are beautifully displayed in an Old Coach House next to The Old Rectory
