Tall Doulton Lambeth Slaters Vase c1895 (40.5cm)

Tall, very attractive Doulton Lambeth Slaters (Chiné ware) stoneware vase c1895. Beautifully crafted design of flowers with stylised leaves encircling the body on a Slaters ground. Impressed Doulton Lambeth mark (use pre 1902) and Doulton & Slaters Patent. Signed with the artist's monogram ttt (Eleanor Tosen Senior Assistant 1885-1920) and LB (unknown). Pattern number 851. The vase is 40.5 cm in height.
This vase is in excellent original condition. No chips, cracks or crazing. Please see further images on our website as these form an important part of the description.
The description Slaters was given to an unusual type of decoration which evolved in the 1880's. This was created by John Slater (manager of Doulton's Burslem Pottery) and was used predominantly between 1885 and 1915. The distinctive feature of these wares is a textured background achieved by pressing moistened pieces of textured fabric into the soft clay. A design was then applied over the textured body. The process was patented jointly by Doulton and Slater. Eleanor Tosen was listed as Senior Assistant from 1885 to 1920 but also completed some original designs which she marked ET.
