Vacheron & Constantin 18 Kt Gold pocket watch

VACHERON & CONSTANTIN 18 Kt GOLD CYLINDER SWISS
OPEN FACE POCKET WATCH 1840
An early Vacheron & Constantin open face FOB pocket watch, made in Switzerland in 1840. It is a very early pocket watch made by Vacheron & Constantin, it's very rare to find a pocket watch when the company has just started. The pocket watch is complete with original key and box.
DIAL: The white enamel dial has Roman numerals with outer minute divisions and nice golden moon hands. The protective glass is in great condition.
MOVEMENT: The cylinder gilt bar movement is signed: "V & C". The movement is in great working condition, however we cannot guarantee accuracy for an antique pocket watch.
CASE: The pocket watch lies in an 18 Kt gold case with an engine turned finish with a centre enamel cartouche. The inner side of the case is stamped: "18 K and J.M." and numbered: 113561. The outer side of the cuvette is stamped: "Echappement Horizontal, Aiguilles, Quatre Trous en Ribus". The inner side of the cuvette is also numbered: 113561.
Signed: Vacheron & Constantin - Diameter: 30 mm - Swiss Made
Total Weight of the watch: 19.6 gr.
VACHERON & CONSTANTIN:
Vacheron & Constantin was founded in 1755 in Geneva by the watchmaker and historian Jean-Marc Vacheron. In 1819, Francois Constantin joined the firm. His main task was to travel to France and Italy to sell the watches. Georges Leschot came to the firm in 1839 to help accomplish the biggest challenge of the time, the mechanical manufacture of watch parts. In 1880 the firm adopted the Gross of Malta as their emblem. In this period, they were pioneers in the development of the watch-bracelet. Today they remain innovators, creating high quality pieces with all of the most complicated mechanisms such as chronographs, repetitions and calendars.
