These highly sought-after Victorian paint or Watercolour boxes are particularly a joy to find made by the famous Reeves. This one dates to around 1850 and is more complete and original than most. Made from Mahogany, the box is in great shape.
The front has an inlaid escutcheon which houses the original working key and there is a flush brass inlaid handle to the front of the drawer. The box opens to reveal a fully fitted interior and the inside of the lid bearing the Greyhound mark and "Reeves & Sons, 113 Cheapside, London".
The top section has a lift out tray containing the original paint blocks The original porcelain pan marked on the back and the glass water bowl are also present. There are also original Charcoal's still in their original wrapping.
The brass pin at the front is removed to allow the drawer to be opened the drawer containing the full sized Porcelain palette, again signed.
