Victorian Mahogany Metamorphic Side Table / Desk

A magnificent totally original late 19th century inlaid mahogany side table which opens to reveal a beautiful “pop up” writing desk, smoothly and satisfyingly rising into place with the action of the hinged top. The attractively time worn rich brown leather writing slope lifts to reveal a storage area with further compartmentalised storage to the rear.
Finnigans produced the finest quality luggage and traveling accessories for wealthy clients throughout most of the 19th century. The piece features a bone nameplate to the front and brass patent mark to the rear.
Very good condition, structurally all solid with the popup action working smoothly and only some light age related surface wear. Below the desk is a pull out leather topped storage compartment with the interior upholstery original and quite shabby, left as is for posterity maintaining the authenticity of this highly original piece.
English, circa 1890.
