Victorian Marble Flame Mahogany Escritoire Desk

A lovely flame mahogany escritoire. We date this escritoire to the late 19th century.
The escritoire sits on four shapely bracket feet.
The escritoire consists of a drop flap writing section over a bank of three drawers and a discreet drawer within the plinth. There is a further top drawer.
The drop flap has brass supports at the sides.
The interior has lovely birds eye maple veneers and is fitted with a shelf area and drawers. The drawers are fitted with small brass button handles. There are secret drawers operated by an internal catch to each side.
The top has a removable black marble surface.
The drawers and drop flap are fitted with locks and decorative brass escutcheons (key supplied).
The cabinet has a height of 61.5" (157cm), a width of 44.5" (113cm) at widest and a depth of 18" (46cm) at deepest.
This lovely escritoire remains in a good solid condition with only very minor surface markings commensurate with age and usage. There is a tiny bit of old worm holes to the rear, treated twice to make sure. There are age splits to the sides and some mellowing primarily to the front surfaces. There is some wear to the inside veneer around the lock. The marble has a small chip to the centre front with some light scratches to its edges.
This remains a very stylish and elegant escritoire which will continue to provide good service for many years to come.
