Victorian Silver/MOP Fruit Knife, Sheffield, 1841 %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is a good quality Victorian Fruit Knife with a Sterling Silver blade and a Mother of Pearl handle. It has a fine cast silver crown on the end of the handle and the inset cartouche is blank. The Fruit Knife was made in Sheffield in 1841 by silversmith and cutler John Nowill, whose firm operated from premises in Scotland Street for around 100 years (latterly as John Nowill & Sons) from the late 1820s up to around 1930.

The knife is in very good condition with just a very slight bend to the tip of the silver blade and the mother of pearl is in fine condition. Remarkably good really for a knife that has seen nearly 180 years of use.

The Fruit Knife is 13.4cm long when fully opened and weighs 16.8g all in.
The hallmarks, which are nice and clear to read, are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter "v" for 1841, the Queen Victoria duty mark and the JN makers' mark for John Nowill.

Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
Overseas customers please enquire about shipping costs before making a purchase and please be aware that some countries have restrictions on the importing of knives of any kind.
