Artist - James William Carmichael (1800-1868), an English painter best known for his marine paintings
Title - Cherryburn Cottage: The Birthplace of Thomas Bewick
Details - Watercolour painting, signed and dated in one bottom corner. Pasted onto a back board which has the titled written along the bottom. Glazed and framed in an antique frame. Written along the top of the frame is: 'Hand Made of Thorn from old … [the rest is indecipherable]'.
Condition - Overall in fair condition. The paper of the painting and the backboard are tanned with age and have some scattered foxing (brown spotting). There is some grubbiness. The frame has some knocking, scratching, grubbiness and wear as might be expected.
The approx. measurements are as follows:
Visible Image Size - 23cm by 16cm
Frame - 34.5cm by 28cm, 2.5cm deep. Further images are available. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. Viewing is welcome, but please contact us before travelling as we are only open by appointment.
