We are offering for sale this very well executed oil painting on board by the Sheffield artist William Ralph E. Goodrich, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner. The painting depicts a pottery vase filled with pink asters and blue cornflowers.

William Goodrich was born in Sheffield in 1887. He lived at 13 Leamington Street, Crooksmoor, Sheffield for part of his working life. He studied at Sheffield Art College and in Italy and was a painter in both oil and watercolour of rural scenes, still life and other subjects, including the Venice Carnival and, during WWII, planes. His is listed in the Dictionary of British Artists (Collectors' Club) and Painters in the Northern Counties of England and Wales by Dennis Child. He died in Sheffield in 1956.

He exhibited in various Yorkshire Galleries and once at the Royal Academy. There are examples of his work in The Sheffield Art Gallery.

There are 43 auction records available for his work at artprice and the record for one of his paintings is £1,500 at Tennants in 1999.

The painting has been newly framed in a 2 1/4" gilt frame to suit. It is ready to hang.
