WW1 War medal.
The British war medal was awarded to officers and men who completed at least 28 days service either on operational duties in a theatre of war, or who entered overseas service between 5th August 1914 and 11th November 1918. This was later extended to include services in Russia and Siberia in 1919-20. The medal was automatically awarded in the event of death on active service before the completion of this period.
War medals were engraved/stamped with the recipient's service number, rank, name and regiment round the edge.
This medal is correctly named to "21402 CPL. G. A. Ibbotson R.A." - a corporal with the Royal Artillery.
The medal is full size, and measure approximately 3.5 cm (1.5") in diameter.
