Railway Bridge Plates
Railway Bridge Plates were cast iron identification plates used for operational purposes to identify a bridge and who was responsible for it. Ones with a white background indicated the structure was owned by the railway. Bridge plates with a red background indicated that the structure was owned and maintained by a different authority like a council or Highways authority. You would normally find a railway bridge plate where the railway interchanged with a road or another railway. Railway enthusiasts often use these plates as house numbers. A great gift if you can get the right number.
