2 x Early 20th C Albany Silver Plate Marrow Scoops

This is a good set of two Early 20th Century Silver Plate Marrow Scoops in the Albany pattern. This distinctive pattern was introduced in the 1880s and features fanned and fluted decoration on the upper part of the stem with a bead finial.
The marrow scoops were made in Sheffield by John Round & Son and date to the period between around 1900 and 1930, although only one of them has the makers' mark on it and one is just a little longer than the other, so it is possible that one was made by a different company.
Marrow scoops were common from the 18th century onwards and were used for scooping the marrow out of large bones at the dining table. They are virtually all double ended, with either a narrower and a broader scoop or a spoon and a scoop, so these two having a single scoop and a patterned stem are quite rare.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no significant plate loss and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
One marrow scoop is 16.2cm / 6.4ins long and the other is 15.2cm / 6ins long. The pair together weigh in at 34.5g / 1.2oz.
One scoop is marked on the back with the Gothic lettering J R & S, which is the silver plate mark of John Round & Son after 1896, when it became illegal to use a crown mark on silver plate. The other is unmarked.
Shipping in the UK is £4.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
