Antique silver Benson fusee pocket watch & chain

Antique silver J W Benson fusee pocket watch & chain.
The watch has an English fusee movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed J W Benson, 62 & 64 Ludgate Hill, London, Watchmaker by Warrants to the Queen & The Prince of Wales. As this is a fusee chain driven movement, the key is wound in an anti clockwise direction.
The movement is protected by an inner fitted cover.
The watch measures 53mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs for London 1910 with a case maker’s mark for the Coventry watch case maker Clarke & Ward. The case is in good condition and the engine turned detail to the back is still nice and crisp.
Whilst there is no scar damage or other indication that the movement and case are not original to each other, we would have expected to see the JWB maker’s mark rather than the Clarke & Ward mark so we suspect the two have been married together at some stage, probably many years ago.
To initially set the time, the front cover is opened and the key is inserted into the middle. This front cover is quite difficult to open and requires a blade of some sort.
The glass lens is in lovely condition, just one nibble to the bevelled edge.
The dial is signed J W Benson, London. There is a faint hairline running vertically through the centre, and a short crack beneath the subsidiary seconds dial. At least one of the hands is a later replacement.
The watch comes with an antique single silver chain, 32cm long including the T-bar and the clasp.
The watch and chain come in a new presentation box.
ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
