J W Benson
The Benson family had been watchmakers since 1749. In 1847, James William Benson and his brother, Samuel Suckley Benson, entered into a partnership. However, this partnership was dissolved on 27 January 1855, and James William continued the business under the name 'J. W. Benson.' After their father's death in 1878, Alfred and Arthur Benson took over the business. Throughout its history, J.W. Benson Ltd served as the official watchmaker to the Admiralty and the War Department. Additionally, they held a number of Royal warrants, providing timepieces to notable figures such as Queen Victoria, the Prince of Wales, the Tsar of Russia, and several other Royal families.
