Shapland & Petter Furniture maker
Shapland and Petter of Barnstaple. Furniture manufacturer in the Arts and Crafts style. Along with their Arts and Crafts range they produced a wide range of other styles including period reproduction. Their pieces were very well made using quality materials.
Founded by Henry Shapland 1823 a cabinet maker by trade. He went into partnership with Henry Petter an accountant. Together the business was a success. In 1924 Shapland and Petter merged with the Barnstaple Cabinet Company producing North Devon's biggest industry. The company was always keen to to adopt the most up to date machinery. Shapland and Petter were renowned for excellent design and workmanship. The factory also produced made to order woodwork for banks, hotels and shops.
