We are offering for sale this very well executed still life oil on canvas by the 20th Century Croydon artist CONSTANCE M. COOPER, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner. The painting is a still life of pale pastel pink tea roses, lying on a table next to a glass vase of water.
This is one of four paintings by this artist that we are currently listing.
CONSTANCE M. COOPER 1905-1998 is a twentieth century British artist, who lived in Croydon, Surrey. She studied at Croydon College of Art and was elected to the Society of Women Artists, becoming their Vice President. She was also the President of Croydon Art Society for 22 years. According to their website, she had a business in London employing 23 girls in the design and construction of lampshades for royalty. She was a great supporter of the Scout movement and was largely responsible for the Society raising and donating many thousands of pounds to charities, including the Scouts. At one time she lived at 35 Shirley Park Road, Croydon.
There are auction listings available for this artist on artprice (5 listings), arcadja (9), findartinfo (5) and askart (1). A painting by this artist of flowers in a vase achieved £360 at Gorringes, Lewes in 2001.
The painting is framed in a 3 1/4" ornate swept gilt frame and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
