On the road to Snaith, George Anderson Short

We have for sale a watercolour painting by the Yorkshire artist George Anderson Short (1856-1946)
The painting entitled "On the Road to Snaith" depicts cart horses pulling carts through a Yorkshire village on the way to Snaith. The painting is signed by the artist and probably dates to somewhere around 1907 when he moved to Snaith.
The picture is in a very good condition and is presented in a new replacement frame. The picture measures approximately 15.5 inches by 18 inches (36.8cm x 45.7cm) including the mount and frame.
About the artist
George Anderson Short was born in Kirkharle, Northumbria in 1856, his family moved to Halifaz where George married Alice Spencer, sister of the owner of Spencers Wool Staplers. George worked as a carpet designer at Dean Clough Mills in Halifax and lived in Manor Heath Halifax.
In 1907 George moved to Snaith, and later returned to live in Saville Park Halifax in 1927.
George was a prolific artist, during his life he painted about 2000 pieces of work in oils and watercolours, mostly concentrating on sporting scenes, wild fowl, hunt meets, gypsy scenes and local scenes in Snaith and Halifax, including the Halifax horse market. He sold very little of his work other than a few commission pieces, the most well known of which was bought in 1901 by Messrs Frost and Reel of Bristol as a campanion to a picture entitled "The Highland Raiders" by Joseph Farquharson R.A.
George Anderson Short died in 1946 and his extensive collection of works (approximately 2000 paintings) was later sold be his daughter in about 1988. Works by George Anderson Short are highly sought after by collectors of his work in the West Yorkshire region and examples very seldom come to market.
