Victorian Oak Arts & Crafts Student's Bureau Desk

This lovely antique student's bureau looks to date from the late nineteenth century. It is constructed from solid oak and is very much in the arts and crafts stye with lovely copper-plated art nouveau show hinges. The bureau has a fall front writing section with a leather inset writing surface and a selection of pigeon holes and drawers in the recess behind. Beneath this is a long drawer with a an open section beneath and cupboard beneath this with two fall-front doors. The brass handles on the drawer are original and one is stamped with the registered design number 376865. The brass handles on the lower cupboard doors are replacements. The upper fall front retains its lock and a working key.
Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition, but does have some wear consistent with age and use. It shows some signs of restoration and alteration - some of the brass handles are replacements, as is the leather inset writing surface, and the pigeon holes etc. behind the writing surface have been altered. The small drawer within the pigeon hole recess has loose a front which is detached (but present) and requires repair. One of the wooden studs is missing to one side. There are some signs of old woodworm to the top - this is not active but has been retreated as a precaution. The hinges on the fall front are a little loose and would benefit from some new screws. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and the piece is overall a little faded. The copper-plated show hinges have some scuffing, scratching and wear.
The approx. measurements are as follows:
Overall - 112.5cm high, 95cm wide, 33.5cm deep (to maximums). Further images are available. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. Viewing is welcome, but please contact us before travelling as we are only open by appointment.
We can arrange delivery of both smaller items and furniture - please contact us for details and a quote. Customers are also welcome to use their own couriers if preferred.
Payment can be made by PayPal, bank transfer, cheque [UK only], and cash on collection.
