William IV Rosewood Davenport %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
Circa 1830, William IV rosewood davenport with stamp of M. Willson. With a three quarter rosewood gallery with turned balustrades and a beaded top rail. The green leather slope has tooling and gilding and opens to show a mahogany polished interior with 4 drawers, 2 of which are dummy, each with tiny turned knob handles. The front and back of the davenport have fielded panels with a rosewood section inside and the desk is polished on all sides. On the left, is a full length pull out slide for storage and 4 dummy drawers. There is a stamp to the top drawer of M. Willson, 68 Great Queen Street. This was likely of Mary and Matthew Willson, the wife and son of Thomas Willson who was a furniture broker and appraiser at 68 Great Queen Street, London. The ogee moulding runs around the desk and it stands on elegant squat, turned and fluted legs with brass castors beneath.
