2 x Art Deco Silver Sauce Boats, Chester, 1939

Here we have a very stylish Pair of Art Deco Sterling Silver Sauce Boats. The boats have oval bases with line decoration, long extended pouring lips and c-shape handles. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The sauce boats were made by S. Blanckensee & Son and assayed in Chester in 1939. The firm was originally founded in Bristol by Abraham Solomon Blanckensee in 1826 but very quickly moved to premises in Birmingham and also had a mark registered in Chester. Saul Samuel was briefly a partner but left in 1858 and from the 1880s they were known as S. Blanckensee & Son Ltd until they ceased trading at the end of the 1930s. They made a wide range of silverware of consistently high quality.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each sauce boat is 16cm / 6.3ins long, 5.7cm / 2.2ins across and stands 4.4cm / 1.7ins high. The pair together weigh in at a substantial 131.6g / 4.6oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, towards the rear of each sauce boat, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the sword and three wheatsheaves assay mark for Chester, the date letter O for 1939 and the S.B & S Ltd makers' mark for S. Blanckensee & Son Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £11 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the sauce boats.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
