2 x Edwardian Silver Bonbon Dishes, B'ham, 1904

Here we have a beautiful Pair of Edwardian Sterling Silver Bonbon Dishes. The dishes are octagonal, with eight panels of embossed flower decoration rising from a circular base, topped by pierced celtic cross motifs and finished with a flat scroll embossed top rim. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The dishes were made in Birmingham by silversmiths L & W, almost certainly Lee & Wigfull, and date to 1904. Founded in Sheffield in 1871 by George Lee and Harry Wigfull, the firm were electroplaters, silversmiths and pewterers. George Lee left the firm in 1879 but the company continued to trade as Lee & Wigfull. The firm prospered and remained in the Wigfull family until the end of the Second World War. A number of buyers then followed before the firm ceased trading around 1969.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents, no damage to the pierced sections and just the superficial surface wear that has to be anticipated after over 120 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each dish is 11.4cm / 4.5ins across the top rim and stands 2.2cm / 0.87ins high. The pair together weigh in at a very respectable 88.5g / 3.12oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on two points of the top rims, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter e for 1904 and the L & W makers' mark, which is almost certainly the Birmingham mark for Lee & Wigfull.
Shipping in the UK is £11.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the dishes.
