2 x Edwardian Silver Bonbon Dishes, B'ham, 1910

Here we have an attractive pair of Edwardian Sterling Silver Bonbon Dishes. The dishes are octagonal in shape with pierced sides and stand on 4 feet. Originally intended for wrapped sweets, they could also be used for nuts or snacks or even potpourri.
The dishes are made in Birmingham for the retailer Stewart Dawson & Co Ltd and date to 1910. David Stewart Dawson founded his company in Liverpool in 1869 and had relocated to London by the mid-1890s. They had shops in both Regent Street and Hatton Garden and also opened premises in Melbourne and Sydney in Australia. The business was sold in the early 1930s.
Condition is good with one leg on one dish just slightly out of alignment and a tiny ding in the base of the other dish plus the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 110 years of use. There is no damage to the delicate pierced work on the sides. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The dishes are 10.1cm / 4ins across the top rim and stand 3.6cm / 1.4ins high. The pair together weigh in at a very substantial 150.3g / 5.3oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the undersides of the bases are clear to read, with the exception of the makers' mark on one dish, which is somewhat rubbed. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter l for 1910 and the S.D & Co Ld in a shield makers' mark for Stewart Dawson & Co Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £11 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the dishes.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
