2 x Edwardian Silver Serving Spoons, 1907/08

This is an elegant cased pair of Edwardian Sterling Silver Serving Spoons. The spoons have Puritan style bowls which are gilded inside, whilst the stems are in the Hanoverian style with thread & bow pattern. Each spoon has a crest of a dog skilfully engraved at the top of the stem. The spoons are in a black leather covered case with a dark red velvet bed for the spoons and a cerise silk lining inside the lid.
The spoons were made in Sheffield by the well known firm of Atkin Brothers, with one dated for 1907 and one for 1908. Tracing its roots back to Thomas Law in the mid-18th century, the Atkin family took sole control of the business in 1840, first as Henry Atkin & Co and then from 1853 as Atkin Brothers. They ceased trading in 1958.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and only the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 110 years of good service. The case is quite scuffed on the outside but the inside is in nice condition and the hinges and clasp are in full working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each spoon is 19.8cm / 7.8ins long and the pair together, unboxed, weigh in at a substantial 116.6g / 4.1oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the undersides of the stems are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter p for 1907 and q for 1908 and the HA makers' mark for Harry Atkin of Atkin Brothers.
Shipping in the UK is £11 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the spoons.
