This is a good looking Pair of George VI Sterling Silver Dwarf Candlesticks. The candlesticks have broad circular bases, weighted for stability, short knopped stems and urn shaped sconces. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The candlesticks were made in Birmingham by H C Davis Ltd and date to 1951. Founded in 1901 in the heart of Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, Henry Clifford Davis produced a wide range of silverware from small personal items such as manicure sets and sewing kits up to large tea and coffee sets, candlesticks and candelabra. They became H.C. Davis Ltd in the early 1930s and remained in business into the 1960s.

Condition is good, with just a couple of little dings on the sconce rim of one candlestick plus the overall superficial surface wear that has to be expected after 75 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The bases of the candlesticks are 8.1cm / 3.2ins in diameter and they stand 6.8cm / 2.7ins high. The pair together weigh in at 285.3g / 10oz but this does of course include the weighting material in the bases.

The hallmarks, on the sides of the bases, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter B for 1951 and the H C D makers' mark for H C Davis Ltd.
