2 x Victorian Silver Trinket Dishes, W Comyns 1896

Here we have an exquisite Pair of Late Victorian Sterling Silver Trinket Dishes in the Arts & Crafts style. The dishes are heart shaped, with crimped rims and a design featuring mythical beings set amongst flowers, fruits and foliage on a textured background. One central cartouche has a flower engraved on it and the other is blank.
The dishes were made in London by celebrated silversmiths William Comyns & Sons, with one dating to 1896 and the other to 1898. William Comyns founded his firm in 1859, later being joined by his sons. They produced silverware of the highest quality, often in striking designs. The company passed through several generations of the Comyns family and finally ceased trading in the early 1990s.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents except perhaps a slight extra crimp on the rim of the later dish, plus the minimal superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 125 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each dish measures 10cm / 3.9ins by 9.5cm / 3.7ins and stands 0.8cm / 0.31ins high. The pair together weigh in at a very respectable 79.2g / 2.8oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the right hand side of the inside base of each dish, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter a for 1896 or c for 1898 and the W.C makers' mark for William Comyns & Sons.
Shipping in the UK is £12.00 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the dishes.
