2 x William IV Silver Salt Spoons, Newcastle, 1832

This is a good quality Pair of William IV Sterling Silver Salt Spoons in the traditional Fiddle pattern. The spoons have the initials J C S elegantly engraved at the tops of the stems.
The salt spoons were made in Newcastle-upon-Tyne by Reid & Son and date to 1832. The firm was founded by Christian Ker Reid in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1778 and were both retailers and manufacturing silversmiths and jewellers. They sold both their own items and other pieces that they commissioned. The business passed through numerous generations of the Reid family until it was finally bought by Northern Goldsmiths in 1967.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents, no significant salt corrosion and just the superficial surface wear that has to be anticipated after over 190 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each spoon is 10.4cm / 4ins long and the pair together weigh in at 15.6g / 0.55oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the undersides of the stems, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the three towers assay mark for Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the date letter S for 1832, the George III duty mark (Newcastle didn't change this until 1837) and the C R over D R makers' mark for Christian Ker Reid and David Reid of Reid & Son.
