3 x George III Silver Dinner Forks, London, 1785

Here we have a fine Set of Three George III Sterling Silver Dinner Forks in the classic Old English pattern. The forks have a crest of a stag's head, a device used by many families over the years, engraved on the undersides of the stems.
The forks were made in London by highly regarded silversmith Richard Crossley and date to 1785. Richard Crossley was a specialist spoon and flatware maker who registered his first mark at Goldsmith’s Hall in London in 1782. He made consistently good quality flatware right up until his death in 1815 and is always a name worth looking out for.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, a small amount of wear to the prongs and just the overall superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after 240 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each fork is 19cm / 7.5ins long and the set of three together weighs in at a substantial 172.4g / 6.08oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the undersides of the stems, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crowned leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter k for 1785, the George III duty mark and the R C makers' mark for Richard Crossley.
Shipping in the UK is £12 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the forks.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
