3 x George III Silver Salt Spoons, G Burrows, 1796

This is an elegant Set of Three George III Sterling Silver Salt Spoons in the classic Old English pattern. Each spoon has the letter S stylishly engraved at the top of the stem.
The salt spoons were made in London by silversmith George Burrows Senior and date to 1796. George Burrows Snr registered his first mark at Goldsmith’s Hall in London in 1769. His mark is most often seen on spoons and flatware but he also made some fine tableware. After his death in 1801, his wife Alice continued the business in partnership with their son, George Burrows Jnr, until her death in 1819, after which George Jnr continued in business by himself into the mid-1820s.
Condition is good, with no salt corrosion and just a shallow flat spot on the bowl of one spoon and the overall superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 225 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each spoon is 10.6cm / 4.2ins long and the set of three weighs in at a respectable 21.4g / 0.75oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the undersides of the stems, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the London date letter A for 1796, the George III duty mark and the G B makers' mark for George Burrows Senior.
