6 x George III Silver Bright Cut Teaspoons, 1789

Here we have an elegant Set of Six George III Sterling Silver Teaspoons. The spoons are in the Old English pattern with bright cut decoration down the front of the stems. The initials E S are engraved in the cartouches at the tops of the stems.
The teaspoons were made in London by silversmith George Gray and date to 1789. George Gray registered his mark at Goldsmith’s Hall in London in 1782. He was principally a spoon and flatware maker but also made small items of tableware. He seems to have had a connection with the Bateman family as his mark is often seen overstruck on Bateman makers’ marks. He remained in business up until around 1806.
Condition is very good, with just a slight misshaping of the bowl of one spoon plus the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 235 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each spoon is 12.3cm / 4.8ins long and the set of six together weighs in at a very respectable 79.9g / 2.8oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the undersides of the stems, are a little rubbed after many years of polishing but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the London date letter o for 1789, the George III duty mark and the G G makers' mark for George Gray.
Shipping in the UK is £12.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the spoons.
