6 x George III Silver Teaspoons, Newcastle

This is a fine Set of Six George III Sterling Silver Teaspoons. The spoons are in the classic Old English pattern with Bright Cut engraving down the fronts of the stems. The letter K is elegantly engraved at the top of each stem.
The teaspoons were made in Newcastle-upon-Tyne by silversmith Thomas Watson and date to between around 1795 and 1810. Thomas Watson was a specialist spoon and flatware maker who was active in Newcastle-upon-Tyne from 1793. He operated from premises in The Side, a narrow street running between the Castle and the Cathedral and remained in business right up until his death in 1845.
Condition is very good, with just a couple of truly tiny dings in the bowl of one spoon plus the overall superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 200 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each spoon is 13.1cm / 5.1ins long and the set of six together weigh in at a very respectable 83.3g / 2.9oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the undersides of the stems, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the three towers assay mark for Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the George III duty mark and the T W makers' mark for Thomas Watson. There is no date letter, which is common on small items of Newcastle silver at this time.
Shipping in the UK is £12.00 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the spoons.
