6 x Victorian Bright Cut Silver Teaspoons, 1896

Here we have a beautiful set of late Victorian Sterling Silver Shell Teaspoons. The teaspoons are in the Old English pattern with shell shaped bowls and bright cut decoration on the upper side of the stems. The initial D is elegantly engraved in the cartouche at the top of the stems.
The teaspoons are made in London by renowned silversmiths Wakely & Wheeler and date to 1896. The firm dated back to silversmith John Lias in 1791. He was joined by his two sons Henry & Charles and later Henry's son Henry Jnr joined the partnership. In 1878 James Wakely joined Henry Lias Jnr and after Henry's retirement he was replaced by Frank Wheeler to form Wakely & Wheeler. They remained in business up until 1957.
Condition is extremely good, with just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. They have clearly been well looked after for over 125 years. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each spoon is 11cm / 4.3ins long and the set of six together weighs in at a very respectable 51.5g / 1.8oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the undersides of the stems, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter a for 1896 and the J.W over F.C.W makers' mark for James Wakely & Frank Wheeler of Wakely & Wheeler.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the spoons.
