6 x Victorian Silver Diamond Jubilee Coffee Spoons

This is a fine Cased Set of Six Victorian Sterling Silver Coffee Spoons. The spoons were produced to celebrate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897 and each spoon has a bust of the Queen as a finial. The case has thin red leather on the outside with a dark pink satin lining in the lid and a dark red velvet tray holding the spoons.
The coffee spoons were made in Birmingham by silversmith William Devenport and date to 1896, in preparation for the jubilee in 1897. William Devenport founded his firm in the 1890s in the heart of Birmingham's famous Jewellery Quarter. Quickly successful, the company produced a huge range of silverware. After William's death in the early 1930s, the company became William Devenport & Co and remained in business into the early 1950s.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 125 years of good service. The box is a little scuffed and worn on the outside but the hinges and clasp are in good working order and the interior looks very smart. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each spoon is 10.2cm / 4ins long and the set of six, uncased, weighs in at a respectable 56.6g / 1.99oz of solid Sterling Silver. The cased set weighs 208g / 7.34oz.
The hallmarks, on the undersides of the bowls, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the Gothic date letter w for 1896 and the W.D makers' mark for William Devenport.
