Art Deco Powder Bowl w/ Silver Lid, Adie Bros 1937

This is a very stylish Art Deco Cut Glass Powder Bowl with a Sterling Silver Lid. The hand blown glass bowl has vertical cuts all round the body and a star cut base. The silver lid has engine turned Odeon style decoration and stripes on the top and is gilded on the underside. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The powder bowl was made in Birmingham by Adie Brothers Ltd and dates to 1937. The firm was founded in 1906 when two established Birmingham silversmiths, McKewan & Adie and E.S. Barnsley & Co, were merged under the leadership of Percy Adie to form Adie Brothers Ltd. The company was very successful and produced a wide range of silverware until the 1960s when they were absorbed into British Silverware.
Condition is very good, with no chips or cracks in the glass, just a couple of tiny dings in the lid and the overall superficial surface wear that has to be expected with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The powder bowl is 9.5cm / 3.7ins in diameter and stands 4.5cm / 1.8ins high. The lid by itself weighs in at a very respectable 50.0g / 1.76oz of solid Sterling Silver and all together the bowl weighs 306.0g / 10.8oz.
The hallmarks, on the outside rim of the lid, are somewhat rubbed after many years of cleaning but can still be deciphered. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter N for 1937 and the distinctive A Bros Ltd makers' mark for Adie Brothers Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
