Art Deco Silver Cigarette Case, C.E. Turner, 1939
This is a good quality Art Deco Sterling Silver Cigarette Case with engine turned decoration. The engine turning has alternating bands of diamond and wave form and the oblong cartouche is blank. The interior is gold washed and has it's elasticated retainer in situ.
The cigarette case is made in Birmingham by Charles Edward Turner and dates to the start of the Second World War in 1939. Charles Turner founded his company at the end of the 19th century and they remained in business up until around 1940.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents. The clasp and hinge are in good working order. The gold wash on the interior is in good order but would benefit from a sympathetic clean. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The hallmarks on the inside of the lid are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter P for 1939 and the C.E.T makers' mark for Charles Edward Turner. In addition the base is marked with the lion passant and the date letter P.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the cigarette case.
